Today at ClueCon in Chicago, Philippe Lindheimer and the FreePBX team announced v3 of their Open Source project. In making the push to version 3, the FreePBX team focused their attention on making the project more accessible to developers, by using widely accepted and familiar programming frameworks such as PHP and jQuery.  Additionally, FreePBX v3 will be engine agnostic, ultimately able to support FreeSwitch, Asterisk and other telephony engines.

This development enables a vastly larger pool of developers to add value to the FreePBX project, as before, developing for FreePBX involved a significant learning curve that added a barrier to entry.

We’re proud to announce that Bandwidth.com will help facilitate the developer relationships through BandwidthU, by creating a special page for FreePBX developers and by hosting regular updates from the FreePBX team here on BandwidthU.
