Race Across America, also referred to as RAAM, is the toughest endurance event in the world. Literally a race around the clock, cyclists ride as fast as they can across the United States traveling more than 3,000 miles from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland.
Unlike other famous races, like the Tour de France, RAAM is not a staged race; it is a non-stop, continuous race in which cyclists can race in either the solo or the team division. Teams take turns riding in a relay fashion and usually cross the country in the span of six to nine days, averaging between 350 to 500 miles per day.
The race has been the ultimate challenge for more than 1,500 cyclists who have raced RAAM in the event’s 28-year history. Previous competitors have included ultra-endurance cyclists of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities. However, completing the RAAM course is such a rigorous challenge that most people consider it a great accomplishment. Few people have achieved the prestige of being designated a RAAM Finisher.
Aligning with Bandwidth.com’s company values and history of working hard and playing hard, RAAM 2010 provides the ultimate challenge. Team Bandwidth.com has approached the challenge head on knowing that RAAM is much more than a bike race - it transforms everyday people into epic adventurers. It will be an experience of a lifetime as they journey across the country each racer proving their ability as a tough, durable competitor. Beyond the racers themselves, the Team’s success will be heavily dependent on the support of an incredible entourage of crew members.
Team Bandwidth.com will start their RAAM adventure on Saturday, June 12 at 2 p.m. Pacific Time. You can follow the team as they work together to overcome the RAAM challenge and bring attention to Bandwidth.com and DurhamCares.
