David Morken and Joe Parke warmed up for Race Across America by taking on the 37th Annual Assault on Mt. Mitchell. With over 11,000 feet of elevation change, the course has 1,500 riders start in Spartanburg, S.C., and finish at the highest point of elevation on the East Coast - the top of Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina. I went along for the ride and got footage of the event. Visibility of the riders on the course was limited by race organizers to 3 “SAG” points, making filming opportunities limited.
David Morken ended up finishing 5th overall in a time of 05:28:39. Joe Parke finished 66th in a time of 06:07:52 (*Joe had a flat tire on mile 45, setting him back significantly from the leaders).
