Connect a female-to-female serial cable from the serial port of the router to a serial port in a computer that can reach the router. Make sure both devices are powered on.
-Within your computer, access Hyperterminal by going to Start button, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Hyperterminal -Create a new connection with the name of your choice (example "Netopia") -Within the "Connect To" prompt change "Connect Using" to COM 1 -In the Com 1 properties use the following settings: Bits per second 9600 Data bits 8 Parity None Stop bits 1 Flow control Hardware -You may need to hit "enter" a few times to see the login prompt for the router -From here you should be able to get in and view the configurations within the router. According to my information you are using a Netopia R5300 with firmware version 4.11.3 (or above if you have upgraded recently). The following is what should be entered in the router.
