Meet point

An order that requires the work of multiple LECs to complete the circuit. For example, BellSouth is the local carrier for most of North Carolina, but Sprint and Verizon are the local carriers in certain areas.

Meet point orders can often be subject to delay because the IXC must send an ASR to the first LEC, who must then request service from any additional LECs needed to terminate the connection to the customer site. In the case that the IXC sends an ASR to the incorrect LEC (which occurs frequently in the industry), the process must begin again and significant delays can occur.

For customers who have a different local carrier in their area than the rest of their state, or who are in rural areas, it is important to explain that delays may occur if their order requires a meet point.
