The attributes of a T1 router that garner a higher price are derived from the work load that a T1 router performs as compared to a lower end router. A T1 router holds the routing table of the entire ISP backbone in its memory. The reason being that the T1 router makes logical routing decisions based on packet delivery locations anywhere in the world, a DSL router simply pushes the packet to the edge of the carrier network, which is locally. This type of function requires a fair amount of RAM and processor power, directly resulting in a higher price.
