Multi-Line Telephone Systems (MLTS) are 2-line and 4-line telecommunication systems that make it easier for businesses to communicate internally and externally with colleagues and customers. These systems are commonly used for communication services in buildings like hotels, hospitals, and office campuses to allow callers to reach emergency services (911) without the need to dial a prefix for an outside number first.

New rules (Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’S Act) are coming into effect for organizations that use MLTS to be able to pass along location information that would be more specific than a front desk or the administrative office and add information such as building, floor, suite, and even specific conference rooms. These rules also require businesses to implement notifications to on-site personnel that emergency services have been contacted, and where they’re needed, via email, SMS, messenger service, or phone call.

How is Bandwidth involved with MLTS?

Bandwidth is one of only three providers able to route VoIP 911 calls directly into the nation’s 911 infrastructure and the only one to offer single-source access to nationwide voice and SMS. We offer Dynamic Location Routing services which are well-positioned to provide your business with the location and notification functionality you need. This helps dispatchers to have access to accurate location data, allowing them to send help whether you’re at home, in the office, or across the country.

Bandwidth also offers 933 testing, which helps to limit the disruption that occurs when scheduling and coordinating live 911 calls with public safety. Calling 933 from any Bandwidth-provisioned 911 endpoint will trigger an automated voice message relaying the caller name, call back number, and address assigned to that endpoint.

Bandwidth understands the importance of making sure an end-user has reliable, fast access emergency services when they need it most. Need help with a solution for either fixed or nomadic users that is compatible with both Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’S Act? We will walk you through the process with our suite of MLTS emergency calling solutions and expert support, all backed by our nationwide voice network.
